PS. Don’t know if a roadrunner is a garden bird, but I have one who visits me frequently. I live in Central Texas and love your work so much. And your beautiful garden. It’s way too hot here for the lovely flower petals. But, I do have bright colors. :)

I love the red cardinal which is so popular in my home state of Virginia. I miss seeing them while living in England. But I’m fascinated here by magpies. Your new big sketchbook is exciting!

Thank you so much for sharing your life experiences and sharing your work. I hope your foot heals very soon.

I'm sorry for my bad grammar in English.

A hug from the distance.

Hello Cathy,

I do enjoy reading your studio notes. As I read the part about your father passing and you receiving an anonymous Valentine, my thoughts quickly went to… it was her father who sent it as gesture encouragement and fatherly love and support. Celebrating love is a good idea.

Your brown bag sketch book is a great idea too. I’ve made books from envelopes. They are a bit wonky but the inside patterns are a fun texture and the little windows on business ones can be used to frame something or peek forwards or backwards. Anyway, I’ve said this before, sitting and reading your notes from the other side of the Atlantic is a such an inspiring quiet joy. Thank you for sharing “snapshots” of your thoughts, world and work. Wrens, crows, common yellowthroat, catbirds brow thrashers. Can one have too may favorites? Thanks again.

I love robins best I think, but in the fields nearby here in France there are the most beautiful herons, every time I see them I feel a little magical 💕

Hello Cathy! I nearly missed this post and your wonderful giveaway. That just wouldn’t do! Here winter holds its grip on us, more deep cold and snow through the day. Last fall my daughter and I planted 65 bulbs in a flower garden and hopefully these conditions will reward us with a lovely crop of blooms eventually... fingers crossed! The old snow melted off of the horse pens creating a thick layer of mud that they all enjoyed a good roll in! Hopefully a fresh layer of snow will allow them to self-clean! I’m glad to hear that you are out walking again. Weather permitting you will regain your stamina quickly! As for your friend Gladys, she maintains quite the Instagram profile in her colorful surroundings! Perhaps such a little lap companion might find it’s way into your home, too. That might be a lot of fun!

So happy to hear that you are healing and up and about more and more. Love how you've captured the wing flittering movements in your painting. Stellar jays are my favorite. I often see them in the trees out the window above my worktable. A few weeks ago, there were four at once, a noisy blue gift!

I love a bird called the Black Phoebe. We have many here in Southern California. Phoebes, as far as I know, are social and inquisitive birds. They often visit low hanging branches near where I’m sitting, and they always seem to communicate somehow. The same with hummingbirds. They always find me. I loved your image of the kitty keeping your lap warm and inspiring your work. Kitties know, just as birds do. I feel their magic. ❤️💌Happy Valentine’s Day, Cathy! 🌹

In my work, I do my own fair deal of writing on a specific subject, and in your writing I feel somehow liberated from my own restrictions and believes about who I am and who I should be. I love to read your day to day life and creative projects. It inspires me.

I hope that the sun reaches your part of the world today as it does here in the Netherlands. Especially today. My brother passed away in 2016, also around this time. There’s always this building up moment to the day that it happened, you probably have felt it too in your own way with your father. May you feel your love for him strongly today and may it nourish you.

For the give away: I was thinking real hard this morning about my favorite bird. If a robin appears in my small garden, I’m always really surprised. And think about my brother who had the same name. But I think I love the blackbird the most. It’s such a beautiful, simple, yet powerful bird, since it’s singing voice sounds like a true outdoor concert.

Greetings from Maryland. Although my name is Robin, my favorite garden bird is the mockingbird. I am especially fond of waking to all the different sounds they make when it is warm enough to sleep with a window open. So glad to hear the post is working better and you are mending too!

Hi Cathy, I love your chit chat and look forward to reading them. I feel like we have lots in common.

My favorite bird is the Cardinal. I watch them from my kitchen window and love how they add a beautiful splash of color against the white snow.
