I love these posts so much! I am in the process of reflecting upon my art practice and finding it so deeply satisfying and inspiring! Sometimes thoughts tumble around in my mind for years and it feels so freeing to speak them or write them out and see them sparkle in the light! I feel this when reading your words, too, tiny threads of connection that become visible. While I am a colorist at heart, I must agree that muted tones create a deeper aesthetic than bold and brassy ones. Our morning is muted here as well after a bit of rain following a frighteningly arid April. When wildfires become a concern this early in the year every drop of rain is a tiny blessed event. Last week there were five wildfires in our county, four of them in one day! 😬

Many thanks always Janet. I am so sorry to read of the wildfires - if they are bad now then I hope rain comes before the hotter summer days. It is indeed worrying, no matter where one is in the world, there is something not quite right about our current ecosystem and I can't see how it can be shifted without dramatic action.... Hope you enjoy your creative reflection and connections

"Everything needs to be just a little sad to feel right." I know this feeling, exactly. I so enjoyed reading your notes this week, Cathy. Like you, I've always shied away from lots of colour... somehow it feels too busy and loud.

I enjoyed "eavesdropping" on your conversation with your daughter. :)

Neighbors and dead trees. Years ago, our neighbor actually came and took down our small dead tree without warning in our front yard (different house than now). Yes, we were happy we didn't have to do it, but really? Apparently, it bugged them far more than us!

Hawthorn is a tree, and a good one, associated with fairies. It’s a hedging plant now, but remember, if hedges don’t get cut, they turn into a line of trees. People get upset when hedges are cut, because it looks so damaging, but it’s actually very important. I think our backgrounds, and approach to colour are very different. I don’t like tube colour (it’s always too pure) but I do like colour, the world seems very colourful to me and I’m not sure everyone experiences it the same way. My husband can’t really tell the difference between pink and purple which I find a bit shocking.

Thank you Deb - the hawthorn is certainly enchanting its way into my home (with branches near the front door)..... I like the fact that we are all so different when it comes to colour and our tastes are never exactly fixed.

many thanks Eirlys, I am happy to know and your comment is much appreciated! Great to hear from you.... I seem to remember a similar episode with a teacher holding a painting aloft! What did they think they would achieve?!
