Easter Best Wishes
Hello Everyone
I hope you are well. Just a brief one this week - but I would like to send you my best wishes for this Easter time. A very happy Easter to you, wherever you may be in the world, however you spend today.
And I wanted to share with you a trio of new paintings and a poem. This has been a quiet week for me and I have appreciated the change of pace.
A bowl of herb cuttings with cottages painting - gouache on brown paper
And below - pale tulips in a crow jug
These works are all gouache on brown paper. I enjoy working on the warm brown so very much.
These three and more will be in my shop this coming Wednesday at 7pm UK time - preview from 4pm - expect to see a mix of new artwork. I hope to also include a few new wool embroidery pieces.
Tea bowls and ink bottle with feather - gouache on brown paper
I am enjoying a more loose, abstract approach to my still life painting.
New Writing
Just one poem for you this week. I hope you enjoy reading. Thanks always for reading and for your kind encouragement.
New Leaves
On the second day I tear my list
into dull pieces. Leave it all.
I stand by the best tree-watching window
to witness a steady unfurling
of bright horse chestnut green.
At some hours I stand and spin
with a smooth drop spindle, Jacob wool.
It gets easier as the leaves widen.
The tree has his new raiment
(how I love that word, both: raiment, tree).
The rain holds off, for now.
Crows flicker on top branches,
mildly dazzled. The new-again tree
fills the window, my week.

Thank you always for reading and I look forward to sharing much more with you as we continue our journey onward through the year. I always feel Easter is the start of a new stretch of time, taking us through the warmer months here in the northern hemisphere. My wish is for all our creative hearts and minds may stay focused on making our best work, making the most of the time outdoors.
Cathy

Happy Easter, Cathy! Beautiful poem and lovely paintings. Glad you’re enjoying the peace this week xx
Wonderful post, paintings and poem. I especially love the effect of the warm brown paper you are using. And, the poem makes me feel as though I am there in your attic, witnessing the unfurling. Happy Easter to you Cathy!
