LOL. Loved your two older, oblivious ladies. Our larger markets (groceries and sundries) now have machines where you can slide your key into a slot, pay your fee and bingo! out will come a shiny new brass key. Your ladies would be flabbergasted upon seeing them and would stop dead in their tracks.
Wonderful share of the new to me "Sound the Trumpet". Reminds me of graduate school studying painting, I took an elective in "Introduction to Music". because music was like a foreign language to me I had to study! I listened to Purcell's "Dido's Lament" so many times, I walked around singing "No trouble, no trouble...." in my head! Listening now, again! Your essays and your paintings are full of heart, thank you! xo
Cathy, another delightful, enchanting, posting. The Bruegel is definitely a painting to get lost in. Thank you for sharing. And your stories…how I love them! I will be sounding the trumpet for the rest of this day!
I also loved the story of the two ladies - I'm an inveterate eavesdropper, love overhearing conversations and snippets of dialogue. I often go to thrift store and browse slowly, just listening to people around me.
I always enjoy your small stories so much!
Thank you for reading Jane, I appreciate it very much!

Thank you for reading Marilee - yes we also have machines in larger supermarkets but I don't think I would ever want to use one, unless I had to!

Thank you Michele, your thoughtful comment made me smile. I want to listen to more Purcell now! Thank you for reading, much appreciated.

Thank you Katie! I appreciate you taking the time to read and comment, much appreciated!
Ohhh the snowdrop queen 🤍🤍
It’s such a pleasure to read your tiny stories again as well. They always transport me.
And—maybe you know this already—I recently learned you can add “- AI” to your online search queries to sift out that soulless stuff.

Lovely artwork, Cathy!
You are an absolute treasure. The two ladies remarking on the shops, etc., just gutted me: perfection!
