What a delightful read, as always, Cathy. I so enjoy your paintings. I've just read Miss Peregrine's Home for peculiar children and your comments on the word have made me think of how it has a connotation of being outside of what is expected. I can only feel that this is a good thing, as far as creative activities are concerned. But then if everything were peculiar, nothing would stand out. What is peculiar is also very much an individual perception.

Love your little stories especially when you describe the Sophia Loren painting.

Percy is an interesting name. My neighbour calls our pet pheasant Percy. I imagine your grandfather was a very influential person in your life, how could any Percy not be.

Thank you for the notes, Cathy. I really enjoyed them.

I believe the word beautiful takes on more meaning when it’s said slowly.

You’re right, I’m sure a lot of people are struggling now . I’m convinced it’s the winter.

I’m having a hard time too. Even though the weather is improving and winter is nearly over- spring is round the corner, I just can’t snap out it.

The only thing to do is to just look to the future and just see that the light is at the end of the tunnel. we have to keep going don’t we?

It won’t be long before we can spend more time outside, and that is the antidote.

Lovely long walks when it’s milder.

Though it’s a lovely morning today, the fields are covered in frost , and I can hear a song thrush singing so it’s not too bad, I suppose.

Keep on painting rabbits that will herald spring; it’ll come faster, the more rabbits you paint.

Xx

I really enjoy your peculiar and individual way of recording your personal world - I feel you should have lived in Jane Austin times and that the modern world can get a bit much sometimes! Thank you for your thoughts on depression - I've felt the black dog hanging around too and it's comforting to know that there are friends out there who also 'walk the dog'

Thanks for your Sunday newsletter. I've been so busy over the past few months that this is the first one I've read all year. I'm going to try and see if I get lucky today and am able to purchase one of your paintings. See if I'm quick enough. Speaking of depression, it has been a particularly rough winter. Let's hope with Spring around the corner the darkness will lift and the foggy cobwebs will dissappate from the mind.

I love the word peculiar. It's funny you say about your English teacher not liking the word 'beautiful' - at art school we were forbidden to use the word 'nice', although I can understand why, it doesn't really say anything does it? It's such a bland descriptor. Beautiful is far better than nice :-)

Curious and I wonder

Cathy, now that I have known you for a while through your lovely ( and NEVER peculiar ) observations of your thoughts and the world outside your window,

I wonder about your life so far.

And of course I understand my curiosity may be too

Personal.

At 77 years of age, I have a wife of 43 years, a married daughter of some 30+ years and a 2 year granddaughter named Ellie. And two friends that have been in my life for over 40 years. All gifts from the universe.

So Cathy, you it seems are very private in certain areas. Curious. Friendships. Who are you close to?You mention two children. Are your parents near?

Friends with whom you visit periodically?

All done here. Your writing, your stories, all

Germinate these thoughts, you are unique for me.

I do not expect a reply, just enjoy sharing my

Thoughts.

I am reminded of the poet Mary Oliver

I hope my art is peculiar. My English teacher was obsessed with nice, she hated nice. She said it meant neat and precise and we weren’t to use it to describe.. well, nice things.

Peculiar. Does it have negative or positive connotations? For me, positive!
