You are inspiring me to get out my pastels and colored pencils for a new book I have bound. I knew when I made it that the papers were rough and textured, very different from my watercolor pages. Colored too! Red and orange green and browns. Now I will have to see what I want to draw… thank you. Love the writing too.
Hello Cathy:)So very much to love here! Your explanation of the creation of the face in the sketchbook!!it is truely a wonder all the things possible nowadays:)tho your placing of them all is of course utterly unique:)
And I love how all the creations on the dark brown paper look as if they have been there always..
I must read it all again in the morning! Nightime here in New Zealand:)thank you!!
Love this perspective on materials! The way the brown paper's own character becomes part of the final composition is just brilliant. It's like working with an inherent constraint that actually adds so much depth. Such a cool experiment, the subdued look is gorgeus.
Thank you Marilee, I think she intrigued by life today for an artist and despite my adulation is not fooled by me - she comes to give me an intelligent nudge
It was so wonderful to read your sage advice about the daily practice of art which can be applied to anything one would choose to do. This advice really rang true to me. Thank you for including the two poems. I especially love these and the imagery and thoughts that they created in my mind. I have, for a long time, neglected making art and writing. Your work is always something that makes me feel quietly peaceful and at home no matter the subject. Thank you. I appreciate your work so much.
Thank you - I did make a small series of sculpted heads last year, just to get an idea of the process again. I will always think of it as a possibility
It's okay if you aren't on FB. I am not on very often. But if someone clicks on the info about your page or art for Cathy Cullis they'll find out about you. :)
Your collection of wee stories is especially lovely this week...cherry tomatoes displaced by cacti, magpies and Virginia...plus, a sweet love letter to Flickr. ♡
Thank you Cathy for another inspiring Sunday morning read here in Canada, we are getting some early snow today!! I do love your pieces on the brown paper, it lends a deep rich warmth to your pastel work, very autumn in tone. And, your poetry was especially lovely today, especially the line about the sky hanging out to dry.
I always look forward to when Virginia Woolf visits you.
Thank you Katherine, VW makes unpredictable visits but is certainly interesting company.
Your daily drawings feel just like November
Many thanks and much appreciated!

Your daily drawings are coming along so beautifully! And, I appreciate your advice for daily projects - will tuck it away.
Thank you and I am pleased to know you may find my notes helpful
Virgina spends a lot of time with you. An inspiring companion, I'm sure.
And I love the little heads.

Thank you Cheryl for such a lovely and thoughtful response to my notes - that makes me happy
This quote of yours relates to so much in life, Cathy:
“A daily project is an opportunity to expose yourself to failures - you need to fail sometimes, to get a feel for what works and what does not.”💕
Lovely as always!
Thank you Sheila - I think as someone who can forget this occasionally I wrote the note for myself as well as to share
Same, Cathy!💕
Love all your work ))) The tiny heads are just adorable ...xx
Thank you - I am so glad I made the heads all those years ago!
Have you thought about making more ? They are so charrming and I`m sure they would be popular ?
Thank you - I did make a small series of sculpted heads last year, just to get an idea of the process again. I will always think of it as a possibility
I am the type of try it for a day at a time. If it gets interrupted, I can just start again tomorrow. :) I share on FB.
I don’t look at FB at all these days, just not my thing - but if you find a happy place that suits you for sharing then that’s great
